Reflect Tasks 03/05/22

Event: Reflecting Tasks 03/05/22

Description: In the process of doing the assignment, I actually had doubts about many things, such as what is a positional statement, because I had never been exposed to and understood this before, I even heard this word for the first time, whether there is a specific format for the methodology, and how exactly do I position myself and my stakeholders.

Feelings: Although it was my first time working on such a topic and task, I was not as anxious and frustrated as I was before, but I had a desire to explore and understand new things, and I finished the task by thinking about my own project and what I had learned that I could apply to my own project. I can see how I have come from the beginning to where I am now, and keep reflecting on it.

Evaluation: Actually this assignment was very rushed, a short time to think about new topics and questions and then to think about my own project, sometimes we always feel that there is never enough time, maybe not even enough time, but in my past self compared to my past self, I became more patient with the task, I also feel amazing how I went from the beginning of the idea, step by step to now, but it just This is how it came about.

Interpretation: I focused on the following aspects of this assignment: some research on racism, position statements, methodology, and where you stand with the stakeholders. I didn’t really understand all of these, but I went through with the shades of noir task. I’m going to focus on these aspects in the next sessions, as well as think about how it relates to my research and how it relates to my intervention.

Theory: Kendra argued that people often mistakenly believe that simply being “not racist” is enough to eliminate racial discrimination. The problem with this perspective is that White people are often unaware of their own unconscious biases. People often don’t fully understand the institutional and structural issues that uphold White supremacy and contribute to racist behaviors, attitudes, and policies. (Kendra,2021) As Kendi explains in How to Be an Antiracist: “the only way to undo racism is to consistently identify and describe it — and then dismantle it.” (Kendi,2019)

Reflection: As far as I am concerned, through this assignment, I not only gained insight into racism, but also non-racism, anti-racism, and a new understanding of racism for me as an Asian. The term is also not closely related to my interests, but it is relevant to my social context and stakeholders. For Kendra, I mainly agree with her that non-racism is a negative and avoiding attitude and that we should face it and accept it. Later on, I realized that there might be some relevance to my own project in relation to racism, mainly in terms of the definition and impact of multiple identities, and the minority of minorities.

Conclusion: Having learned some different theories and views of racism I now notice that it is a new aspect and relationship to my project. It was this task that inspired me and gave me a lot of time to think, especially about what I can learn from it and how can I relate to it. I have sufficiently developed my research in a new field. This research and intervention could not be totally perfect in my project because it still needs time and think to support it. However, it is provided me a novel aspect and relationship to my project.

Action plan: After then, try to discover the relevance of the task and the project, as well as some methodological approaches and research limitations in the methodology. And timely modify and adjust their own research content and evidence.
